BSI HELPER

Follow the instructions

Hi All

We have been fighting a rearguard action to prevent the proposed changes to the British Standard making our life more difficult. The proposal is that all central heating systems, regardless, are filled with hard water.

The reason being that softened water, by implication, is corrosive. (Which it is not!).

Attached are two documents covering the argument. If you don’t believe me then please take a read. If, after reading them you still don’t believe me, give me a call and I’ll explain whatever it is that you don’t yet understand.

Here is what I am asking all of us to do:

Go to this website and vote for option 2.

https://standardsdevelopment.bsigroup.com

It is quite complicated to get registered so you can comment but please persevere.

This guide should work if you follow it closely. If you get stuck keep trying and if you get really stuck give me a ring on 07802 757576 and I’ll try to help.

Here you go.

You can stop and read all of this if you want. Interesting to those of us with a passion for all things technical. Terribly boring for those who just wish to sell water softeners.

BRIEFLY:

Option 1 - Says system should be filled with unsoftened water.

Option 2 - Permits the use of softened water subject to appliance manufacturers advice and use of an appropriate inhibitor.

Option 3 - Current wording which is due to change, incorrectly identifies softened water as corrosive.

11. Scroll down to 6 . 2 External Hit Add/View comment

You should get down to here. There will be a lot more comments being added as more of you comment. So the page will look a bit different.
